THE CLUBEarly access Birdie Up Practice · Short Game
Compare how different clubs release from a similar landing area on the green.
From one short-grass starting area, choose an unobstructed landing area on bare green. Place flat markers beside the route so the ball lands on turf. Try a 7-iron, pitching wedge and 56° wedge, adjusting each stroke to reach that same area.
Hit five with each club. Compare shots with similar first landings, then watch their flight, first bounce and finish. Less loft generally produces a lower flight and more release on a basic chip; more loft generally produces a higher flight and less release. Contact, spin, slope and green conditions also affect the result.
Adapt to your ability, the space and the conditions. Demonstrations are illustrative. Watch the full lesson and its YouTube description for context and references.
